Why you need this pattern:
Let me start by saying, this pattern is amazing! Mimi G has successfully put her foot off in this one! Simplicity 9701 is another pattern I picked up when it first dropped and kept in my stash for longer than I’d like to admit. This dress is super flattering, quick to make and only requires 2-3 yards of fabric. Did I mention it’s a knit pattern?! When I finally sewed it up, I immediately knew this had to be my Anniversary dress!
Fun Facts:
It’s my Anniversary! Hubby and I are celebrating our 21 year wedding Anniversary this month! We never had a wedding, so I guess this is technically my “white dress”. YES, even after 21 years and 3 kids I still get to have my “white dress”. Say what you wanna say! 😂 I had this fabric in my stash and didn’t know what to use it for. I started pulling out all of my knit patterns (sidebar: there aren’t a whole lot of knit patterns) and decided on Simplicity 9701 by Mimi G! I loved the style lines and decided I wanted to add a little va va voom with a full length gold zipper down the center back… and the rest is history. Ya’ll should have seen me trying to figure out how to use zipper by the yard for the 1st time (not pretty), but I stuck with it and I love how it turned out!
Final Thoughts:
If you like to sew with knits or maybe you don’t, this is a great pattern for you to sew up! It came together so quickly and the fit is bomb! There is a front and back facing that serves as a lining for the bodice and I love how it adds another layer of snatched to this fitted dress! Whatever you do, make sure you don’t mess around and sleep on this one!
Fabric Choices:
Okay, here’s the tea on my fabric! I got this white scuba knit from https://fabricwholesaledirect.com/a/rewards/r/ba7f86ca . Honestly, I had just watched an episode of project runway where this guy used a white scuba knit and I was like, “I should get myself some white scuba knit!”😂 I bought 3 yards and then realized I didn’t have anything to make with it. So it sat and sat until along came Simplicity 9701 and bam! Alternatively you could use; rib knit, jersey, lycra or spandex blends or stretch velvet.
